Which beers do you most commonly drink? Only a couple, right?
My personal “Beer rotation” is:
Yuengling
Budweiser
Samuel Adam’s
*Disclaimer* I am not a representative of any of the above companies, nor do I endorse any of the above products.
Granted, I will drink *almost* any type of beer, those are just my preferred drinks of choice.
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that most people stick to what they like . Well, what if I want to expand my beer horizons and try a new brand? If I wanted to do this, I would have to rely on my friends’ oppinion, weigh their trustworthiness, and then go and buy a six-pack of whatever brand they suggest.
There are hundreads of beer brands; are you really going to buy a six pack of every single one, just to find out if you like it or not? No way! Same thing with your friends, and their friends, etc. — people stick to what they like; (brand loyalty).
HOST A BEER TASTING EVENT!
People like change, thats why when your buddy has a new drink and you ask, “Can I try it?” most of the time, he wont object (unless it is a stranger, duh). What better than to host a beer tasting event where you and all of your friends can go and taste all different types of beers for cheap? Definately a lot cheaper (and fun) than buying hundreads of six-packs.
- Partner with a local bar (This way they assume liabilities - their bouncers are responsible for making sure they check ID’s at the door, mark people that are 21, and only serve people that are of age. YOU are simply acting as an event planner. The bar gains great publicity and can earn a profit from the event at the same time.) If you go this route, you do *may not* (double check) need to obtain an ABC license.
- (OR) Rent a space, Hire “Rent a Cop” If you host the event yourself, you gain higher profits, but there is also more work that is needed. If you “Rent a Cop,” then you put the liability onto him for checking IDs and not letting people in that are not 21. **OBTAIN AN ABC LICENSE!** You can apply for a one-day license easily, here is a link for the VA ABC Special Event Licenses page.
Ask around and get people’s oppinion if they would attend. From my personal experiences, students (of legal drinking age) have loved this idea. Imagine: Try new types of beer, with friends, for cheap, and you (the entrepreneur) make money while it happens!
