The majority of us remember the excruciating summer days when we were young, with nothing to do (because all of our friends were at camp, and we were stuck at home with our mom saying to go outside and stop playing SEGA). What were we supposed to do? Go play Skip-It (The plastic thing where you put one foot though and it counts the number of times you can jump over it without falling over)? No way.
Thank goodness for mom - she’s the one that started our entreprenurial spirit by suggesting “Lets go setup a table outside and sell some Lemonade” Even though you were like eight years old, you were probably thinking “Sell lemonade? Mom are you out of your mind? Who’s going to just walk up and buy lemonade from me?” But you went along with it, setup our table, made a neon sign and exploited our mom for all the lemonade she could possibly make. Oh yes, we were a Donald Trump in the making. You dont make enough lemonade Mom? Your fired.
The point is, start small - stick to the basics. A lemonade stand is a GREAT first startup to get your confidence up. Once you start selling lemonade at 25 cents each, and have someone give you a $1.00 bill and say “keep the change” (300% tip), you feel great. The feeling is normal, whether you are a junior in college or a ten years old, the responce is always “Gee wiz! Thanks mister!”
